THERE was only one game in Division One South yesterday (Saturday) because of the FA Trophy and it was Hythe who made the most of the chance to steal a three-point march on the rest of the division by beating Croydon Athletic 2-1 in Kent.
They should really have settled it by half-time but, for all their possession, they were unable to add to a 17th-minute goal by Brendon Cass and found themselves back on level terms just before the break. Jon Cartledge was the marksman, pouncing when Hythe keeper Paul Egan could only parry Jamie England’s free-kick.
The second half was more even but it was Hythe who grabbed the winner in the 79th minute when skipper Dave Cook headed home a corner for his seventh league goal of the season and eighth in all.
