TWO headed goals in the first half lifted Met Police to seventh in the Premier Division table as they won 2-0 at Aveley tonight (Monday).
Staforde Palmer claimed the first after 14 minutes, tucking a free header into the corner of the net as Aveley failed to react to a free-kick that travelled some 40 yards before reaching the goalmouth.
The second also owed much to sleepy defence as the ball was allowed to bounce across the face of goal for Chris O'Flaherty to nod home at the far post.
Sherwin Stanley's pace and power kept the Met defence on its toes but Aveley, 19th in the table, had only one clear chance to get back into the game. That came early in the second half, when a muddle at the back allowed Gary Wharton a clear sight of goal and he shot wide.
